Hi I am glad that you found the MyGovan website interesting. I can remember all the great times my Brother Edward and I had down the swing park at the bottom of McKechnie Street. Also the fun we used to have on the jumps all along Govan Road. Even when we climbed into the Elder Picture House when it was closing down and pinching some of the torches that was left there. We climbed up a small drainpipe at the back of the Elder an in through a small door that was about 15 inches by 8 inches. It was a small brown wooden door. Crazy as we could have broke our knecks. Talking about breaking things. I broke both my arms when climbing on top of a lorry parked across McKechnie Street directly accross from number 6. It was a big covered lorry and it had ropes holding down the covering. I tripped over on of the ropes and landed on the pavement breaking both my arms. The right one a break and a fracture and my left arm two breaks and a fracture. Spent some time in the Southern General after that.

I too remember making the scooters. I guess they are called skateboards today? But we made them forst! lol  Only difference was the orange box on to of the board. We used to have a den in the high back above the garage on McKechnie Street. We had to climb over the edge of the roof and swing down inside the window. Do you remember getting the carbon from the gas light man and using it like a large banner??

Everything we did as wee boys in Govan was an adventure. Health and safety would have a fit if they knew what we did. I loved the jumps. The Big Charlie, the wee Charlie, Devils leap, the moterbike and lots I can't remember the name of. One I will always remember was one between tow air raid shelters with a line of spiked railings between them and you had to jump from one to the other over the railings. I fell once and only just missed the spikes and knocked myself out. My Mother had to come and get me as I didn't know where the heck I was. Do you remember John Sinclair he was one of our mates but he lived in Wanlock Street in Govan. Or Eddie Wilkie he went to Hills Trust at the same time as me. Or maybe Alec McNeil.

Anyway I'll close for now hope to hear from you again.
Jimmy Strang. of 6 McKechnie Street.
