Waverley Line

Nice to see a sizable section of the Waverley Line re-opened.  The line was closed as part of the Dr.Beeching cuts back in the 1960's. There is a very small Govan connection to Dr.Beeching. At Alexander Stephens yard Mrs.Ella Beeching the wife of Dr.Beeching was looking forward to launcking the 7,000 ton passenger ferry Avalon. However a 3 week strike by the electricians delayed the launch and the offer was withdrawn with the statement that ' the ship would now be launched without ceremony'

Borders Railway opens to the public!/image/2202679816.jpg

The new Borders Railway opens to the public today, bringing to an end a near 47-year wait for train services to return to the region. The line is the longest new domestic railway to be built in the UK for over a century and takes passengers on a 30-mile journey from Edinburgh through Midlothian to Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders.
