Re: Govan NEWS Today. . . .

Hi Jimmy,

I feel sorry for the Rangers supporters whose support has been taken for granted.
My youngest son who supports them says Mike Ashley wants to mortgage the ground against a loan and the fans are not too happy. Some think the best option is an American guy who is interested and willing to put some money in without too many strings.
Needs sorting out soon to enable the club to progress.

David

as governor of Punjab

Mr Sarwar was appointed Punjab governor in 2013

Former Glasgow Govan MP Mohammad Sarwar has resigned as governor of Punjab in Pakistan. His departure comes two days after he criticised the federal government for failing to enter into a new trade partnership with the US. The 62-year-old, who became Britain's first Muslim MP in 1997, tweeted that it had been an honour to serve.

However, he also criticised Pakistan's "injustice and corruption" which he claimed was "deep rooted". He said he would continue to "strive for a better and secure Pakistan", adding: "I shall do everything possible to achieve a better and corruption free Pakistan."

Scott Lamont, was heard by police singing the words "Up to our knees in
Fenian blood" on Cathcart Road on February 1.

The 24-year-old pled guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court and sentencing was deferred until next month. Sheriff Paul Crozier told him: "This sort of behaviour is quite frankly something from an age long, long ago."

He added: "You are facing jail Mr Lamont, do you understand that?" Lamont, of Hertfordshire, was among 16 men that appeared at the court for a number of football related offences on February 1. The Old Firm game a Hampden Stadium that date, was the first in almost three years. Others that appeared in court included a coach at Morton football club, Jaymie Wiggins,18, from Port Glasgow.

Ex-Labour councillor Stephen Dornan joins SNP
http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/80829000/jpg/_80829100_stephendornan.jpg

Mr Dornan is a councillor for the Govan ward
A councillor who quit the Labour Party three years ago has joined the SNP.

Stephen Dornan was one of six Glasgow councillors who left Scottish Labour ahead of a council budget vote in 2012.

He was later re-elected as an independent councillor for the Govan ward under the Glasgow First banner.

Mr Dornan applied to join the SNP group last year and his membership has now been formally approved. He said he believed the SNP was now the "party of social justice".

Speaking to the Evening Times newspaper, Mr Dornan said he believed Labour had "got more blue" while the SNP had "become more socialist, but not in a cynical way".

Mr Dornan had initially campaigned for a "No" vote during the independence referendum before later announcing he was going to vote "Yes".

Susan Aitken, leader of the SNP group on Glasgow City Council, said: "We are very pleased to have Stephen Dornan as part of the SNP group in Glasgow - he's a first class councillor and good man. I am sure he'll be a great asset to our group."

Police search hundreds of children despite commitment

Stop searches of children to end
Children among stop and searches

Police Scotland has reneged on a commitment to abolish stop searches on young children, according to data obtained by BBC Scotland. Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Mawson told a Holyrood committee in June that the "indefensible" practice of consensual searches on children under the age of 12 would be scrapped. Since then, 356 children have been searched by police.

Two thirds of these searches were consensual, and 91% recovered no items. Following the publication of these figures, the Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Alison McInnes announced she would be seeking to recall Mr Mawson to the justice committee. She said: "People deserve to know why Police Scotland haven't kept their word on scrapping this unregulated and illiberal position. "If it is the case that this practice is continuing, it would be reasonable to question if the police misled parliament."

South Glasgow University Hospital campus is handed over.
Scotland's largest hospital - the new £842m South Glasgow University Hospital - has been officially handed over ahead of a planned opening in May.

It hosts the 1,109-bed South Glasgow University Hospital for adults and 256-bed Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

The campus replaces the Royal Hospital for Sick Kids at Yorkhill, the Southern General Hospital, Western and Victoria Infirmaries and Mansionhouse Unit.

The campus was delivered under budget and ahead of schedule.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said the design was a move away from the traditional ward-based model.

The new South Glasgow University Hospital will be one of the biggest campuses in Europe and it will mean a massive shake-up to health services in the city.

What is at the new hospital site?

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/80544000/jpg/_80544023_building.jpg

The new campus is built on the site of the old Southern General in Govan in the south west of the city.
It will house a new 1,109-bed adult hospital and a 256-bed children's hospital.

There will also be a two major A&E departments - one for adults and one for children - a maternity hospital and state-of-the-art laboratory services. Every patient in the general wards in the 14-floor hospital will have their own single room with an en-suite and views out across the campus.

Demolition of the old Southern General surgical block will begin in the summer and be completed by the middle of 2016.

What Happens to Yorkhill?

The brand new children's hospital on the South Glasgow site is next door to the adult hospital but it has a separate identity and entrance. It is a five-storey building with 256 beds and will replace the existing Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill in June.
