Rangers boss McCoist: No Owlers in final friendly
ALLY McCOIST today warned his Rangers rearguard they can take nothing for granted – despite racking up their fifth clean sheet in a row on Saturday.

After wins over Brora Rangers and Elgin on their tour of the Highlands, the Gers rounded off their time on the continent this summer with a 1-0 win over Dutch side FC Emmen to keep up their impressive pre-season form. With a victory over German outfit FC Gutersloh also to their credit, it has been an encouraging few weeks for the Light Blues, especially new keeper Cammy Bell and the rest of his defence.

Govanhill food bank manager Audrey Flannagan fears situation will get worse n Volunteer Susan Miller helps fill emergency aid bags at the Govanhill food bank Picture: Colin Templeton.

The lifeline service, based in Govanhill, gave the packages of food to 219 adults and 116 kids during the month of June. These shocking figures show the growing dependency on handouts in the city. We told you last week that a food bank in Scotstoun had served up 2223 meals to desperate families in just three months.

Lennon is in the strike zone for Celtic

But despite pulling out all the stops as they prepare to say goodbye to Norwich-bound Gary Hooper, Celtic are being frustrated by reluctance of other clubs to do any business so early in the window. Lennon has long-since established his targets, and quickly got Amido Balde, Virgil van Dijk and Steven Mouyokolo on board.

DJ: No excuses as Rangers players must be up for kick-off
WE can talk about all the friendlies Rangers have had and the games that have been won in pre-season, but it is on Sunday afternoon that the real action gets under way.

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/400xY/2013/7/21706977.JPG

The Ramsdens Cup first-round fixture against Albion Rovers is the game that Rangers have to win, this is when the pressure is on. I can remember pre-season campaigns when we struggled and got hammered by teams and then we went on and won the league and had a successful season. Getting it right for the first day of the season is the important thing.

Re: Today's Govan NEWS.

Jimmy,

Rangers still seem to be a bit of a mess !. I see Charles Green has returned.
The Celts won 1-0 in the European Cup at home. Delicately balanced but if they score an awy goal they will probably go through.
