This is a walk requested by Vince Montgomery. 9 Luath Street Govan.

Hi, Well here we ar on another walk which has been requested by Vince
Montgomery. Vince wanted a walk from number nine Luath Street Govan,
to the old Hills Trust School and then on to Govan High School.

I have had to use the photographs of today for this walk as there isn't
any of the streets within the walk out there. So Vince I hope this is
alright? We start in space. Yes that's right up very high!
So here we go!

As we walk along Shaw Street we pass Watson's Home Baker. I used to get
my broken biscuts from here for playtime at Hills Trust.

We carry on up Shaw Street until we come to Rosneath Street and we turn into
it. We could have gone straight up Shaw Street but that would have been a
shorter way and I wanted to show some more of the buildings and streets on
the way to Hills Trust.

the Priests House.

Moving on to Langlands Road, (so empty now. I can remember when it was full
of shops and people bustling about!) And they say it's for the better??
I don't think so!

http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab142/mygovan/Image48.jpg

http://i858.photobucket.com/albums/ab142/mygovan/Image49.jpg

We would normally go along Langlands Road to Govan High School but they
chopped a bit of Langlands Road off to make place for some houses.
http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image5.jpg

As you can see from the picture. So We will have to go back along Harmony Row.
Langlands Road used to go along between the trees you can see.
From up here.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image2.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image4.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image6.jpg

Ok turn let's turn around and back to Harmony Row. Langlands road is now over
to my left.We are on Golspie street and Harmony Road is over to our right.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image7.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image8.jpg

It's all changed now as it used to be Tenements all the way along here.
Ok, into Harmony Row heading towards Crossloan Road.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image9.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image10.jpg

Along Harmony Row, past all the new houses.

Crossloan Road is to the right here.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image13.jpg

As we go along Crossloan Road we are heading back to Langlands Road again.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image17.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image18.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image19.jpg

Believe it or not but that is Elder Street to our right. We have to go straight
on across the mini roundabout.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image20.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image21.jpg

At this mini roundabout Craigton Road is off to our left.
I used to go up along there to go to my Aunty Ellas house many moons ago.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image22.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image23.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image24.jpg

ElderPark Street is to our right and left at this junction.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image27.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image28.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image29.jpg

Carry along Crossloan Road we can see the old Tenements to the left and right and then
the contrast between the old and the new.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image30.jpg

As we pass Langlands Court on the right, the bright red bricked building.
I try to think back how it used to be, with the dirty old Grey sandstone
tenements and how things have changed since they have been cleaned and
showing their real red sandstone colour. Just Like Langlands Court to our right.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image31.jpg

Now at the mini roundabout we join up again with Langlands Road, we keep
going along Langlands road past the Govan health Centre heading for Govan High School.

Drumoyne Avenue to our left.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image36.jpg

Passing Langlands Road Garage.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image37.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image38.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image39.jpg

Like most of Govan, there are new buildings going up all over the place.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image40.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image41.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image42.jpg

Round past Cara Drive to the right we are getting close to Govan High.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image43.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image44.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image45.jpg

This is where we have to leave the road and get onto the footpath between the
houses so up in the air we go. Govan High School is just over there and that's
the path we have to take. So we have to go high again to let you see the path
we have to take.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image46.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image47.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image48.jpg

We come out here onto Mallaig Road.

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image50.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image49.jpg

http://idletester.co.uk/School/Image51.jpg

As we turn the corner we can see Govan High School up ahead.

Hi James,
I would like to take this opportunity in thanking you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful memories of my short life in Govan..
P.S. I have tried to download your picture at Hills Trust School, but for some reason I can't get the photo of the class.I would dearly love to see this photo of this class, is there any other way you can suggest I can see this photo?
My mother's hose went on fire destrorying all merories and killing my brother John Montgomery in the house fire.
Love to hear from you in the near future.
Stay safe,

Hi Vince, I am glad it was alright for you. I have not stopped this week. I have repaired three networks, 13 PC's 3 laptops, 3 websites including mygovan.com. I was still working at 4.30am this morning. I got 2 hours sleep and up, showered and out again. I have only got back home again tonight at 7.30pm and I am calling it a day after this post. I've had a shower and I'm going to bed! I am what they call "knackered" in Govan. Ladies please excuse the language. So Hope you received the school photo you requested?

Well that's about it people. I'm going to bed now for an early night! 22.46, some early night!

Haste ye back.

Re: This is a walk requested by Vince Montgomery. 9 Luath Street Govan.

Hi Jimmy

Great to read and see photos of old Govan. I myself was born in Kinning Park and then Drumoyne. But i spent a lot of time in Govan.  I too went to Govan High, as has my own children who iam proud to say have done very well.  Govan has changed beyond all recognition. I think the councilors should be ashamed of themselves at the way Govan has gone. there used to be shops all the way down Langlands rd, not anymore, no swimming baths either! New houses on this ground now. Nowhere enough  shops, Govan used to have loads of shops to choose from, from clothes to umpteen shoe shops not anymore! Govan has the shopping centre which itself is a joke! I think if someone who has not been the area in years would get a shock.  Only a few Govan landmarks remain. Its a shame as Govan was a wee burgh in its own right at one time, but then people who have never lived in Govan, all your big pen pushers made it what it is today. High unemployment plagues the area.  I could look at old photos of Govan all day long.  This forum has made my day, so keep up the good work Jimmy! I think i recognise someone in the photos of the swing park down by the old broo!!!!
